Wayne Cuddington / Ottawa Citizen The scene outside the Iranian Embassy at 245 Metcalfe St. in Ottawa on Friday. Canada has ordered all of Iran’s diplomats to leave the country and has closed the Canadian Embassy in Tehran.
  • Canada is entirely correct to close its embassy in Tehran and expel all Iranian diplomatic personnel from our country, as it did on Friday. Embassies and diplomatic corps are tools that permit civilized nations to conduct international relations in an orderly manner. But there is nothing to discuss with Iran: It is a warmongering rogue nation, a state supporter of terrorism (and now designated as such under Canadian law), a peddler of anti-Semitic hate, and a prop to the butchers of Syria.

Other nations should follow Canada’s example. The time may not yet be ripe for dropping bombs on Iran. But the time for dropping the courtesies of diplomatic relations has long past.

Canada severed all diplomatic ties with Iran on Friday, citing a long list of grievances including Tehran’s military assistant to the Syrian regime, rogue nuclear program and threats against Israel.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said in a statement that Canada had closed its embassy in Tehran and that all remaining Iranian diplomatic personnel in Canada had been declared personae non gratae.

“Diplomatic relations between Canada and Iran have been suspended. All Canadian diplomatic staff have left Iran, and Iranian diplomats in Ottawa have been instructed to leave within five days,” Minister Baird said.

Canada has also designated Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism. The designation lifts Iran’s state immunity, opening the door for victims of Iranian state-sponsored terrorism to sue Tehran for damages.

Canada’s move was swiftly applauded by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who has strongly warned of the danger of a growing threat from Iran.

“I wish to congratulate (Canadian) Prime Minister Stephen Harper who has made a bold leadership move that sends a clear message to Iran and to the entire world,” Netanyahu said in a statement from Jerusalem.

“The determination shown by Canada is of great importance in order for the Iranians to understand that they cannot go on with their race toward nuclear arms. This practical step must set an example of international morality and responsibility to the international community,” he said.

A message posted on the Iranian embassy’s website claimed it had been forced to close because of the ‘hostile’ actions of the Canadian government: “Due to the hostile (belligerent) decision taken by the Canadian government, the embassy of the Islamic republic of Iran is now closed and we are unable to provide further consular service to our dear Iranian nationals. Please refrain from sending any documents to the consular services,” the note read.

Relations between Canada and Iran have been sour since the 1979 Islamic Revolution but have worsened in recent years as Ottawa has confronted Tehran over its support for terrorism, nuclear ambitions, anti-Israeli rhetoric and human rights abuses.

Meanwhile, Iran has taken to attacking Canada over its treatment of First Nations. In July, the government warned Iran to stop using its embassy in Ottawa to recruit Iranian-Canadians to serve its interests.

“Canada’s position on the regime in Iran is well known. Canada views the Government of Iran as the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today,” Mr. Baird said.

THE CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian WyldCanadian Minister of Foreign Affairs John Baird announces Canada is breaking diplomatic relations with Iran at the APEC Summit in Vladivostok, Russia, Friday, September 7, 2012.

“The Iranian regime is providing increasing military assistance to the Assad regime; it refuses to comply with UN resolutions pertaining to its nuclear program; it routinely threatens the existence of Israel and engages in racist anti-Semitic rhetoric and incitement to genocide; it is among the world’s worst violators of human rights; and it shelters and materially supports terrorist groups, requiring the Government of Canada to formally list Iran as a state sponsor of terrorism under the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act.

“Moreover, the Iranian regime has shown blatant disregard for the Vienna Convention and its guarantee of protection for diplomatic personnel. Under the circumstances, Canada can no longer maintain a diplomatic presence in Iran. Our diplomats serve Canada as civilians, and their safety is our number one priority.”

It is quite embarassing to read this, as it is full of subjective rhetoric. Our own leaders , like those in the US have fallen all over themselves in a blind allegiance ass- kissing of Israel.

Israel is a war mongering country that would likely shrivel up and die if peace broke out in the Middle East. They bully Palestinians and steal their land, and yet Israel plays the whining victim card ad nauseum?

If war breaks out, you can be assured that our soldiers will be part of the conflict and many will come home in body bags…..and for what ? … show support and pay homage to rogue state of Israel ?

Israel has hundreds of nuclear weapons and is the 4 th ranked military power in the world . Iran has every right to build a nuclear program like other countries have. If it chooses to, who is to say it cannot have nuclear weapons ? Pakistan, its eastern neighbour, has nuclear weapons. Having nuclear weapons  at least creates a detente’. However, Iran has shown no indication of choosing this path. Iran has not invaded a country for hundreds of years. In addition over 20% of the worlds oil supply passes through the Persian Gulf. and any war in this area will create shortages and price increase.

More recent reports say nothing should be read into Canada’s expulsion of Iranian diplomats and closing its own embassy in Iran ( which happened  conveniently on  Friday aka day before the weekend ), but in fact that is a classic sign something is up…ie that Iran will be attacked….because_____?  You usually don’t attack unless the other side is an aggressor…and Iran has not shown any such actions. However, they are fully prepared to defend itself, and has every right to.

They seem to forget that Iran has a Jewish population of close to 30,000 people, no evidence they are leaving Iran.

Iran is not stupid… is not a backwards country, it is a very modern society . I keep a globe near me so i can have a quick view of the geo-politics. Iraq has been liberated…aka its now a basket case….millions of innocent civilians were killed in the process. Iraq lies between Syria and Iran…if Syria goes down, that seriously exposes Iran on that western flank to hostile aggression.  Libya, which was so -called “liberated”  is also in chaos. Do people seriously think Iran wants to suffer that same fate ? This will become  WW3 if Iran is attacked by Israel and its blinded allies.

This is truly an indictment of our leadership and who they should represent versus who they chose to represent.

If this propoganda that Iran is an evil threat  is continued people will accept it, yet just a little bit of homework will show who the REAL threat  is…that’s how sad this has become in trying to get the public brainwashed and supporting anti Iran bias. If Iran goes down, be assured, the entire world will become a very different place, and not for the better.

So the conclusion is, Israel has a disproportionate amount of control over worlds’ Gov’ts. Israel is the country that should be treated like Iran currently is….that they are the ones that should be boycotted and sanctioned until they “grow up” and quit war mongering. Fortunately, more and more people are waking up to its lies and various agendas.
